Extraction and Grafting:
Achieve Optimal Dental Health

  • Extraction and Augmentation Grafting

Tooth extraction can be likened to pulling a tree from your backyard, which leaves a large hole that may collapse if not properly addressed. Socket grafting is a procedure where bone graft material is used to fill the empty socket after a tooth is removed, while augmentation grafting adds width and height to an area that has experienced bone loss.

  • Graft Material

The graft material used can be either donated bone or synthetic bone. These grafts are often over-packed, which may cause gritty particles to fall away and feel like sand when you bite—this is normal.

  • Membrane

A thin collagen sponge, or membrane, is placed over the graft to stabilize it during the initial healing period. It is common for this membrane to come off in the early stages.
